Culpeper County freshman Isabella Hardaway qualified for the Class 4 state cross country meet with a top-10 finish at Thursday’s Region 4C competition in Winchester.

Hardaway ran a time of 19:55.5 to finish ninth in the girls race, punching her ticket to the state competition, which will be held on Nov. 16 at Great Meadow Park in The Plains.

Broad Run’s Ellie Desmond won the race at 18:23.7, followed by Millbrook’s Madison Murphy (18:27.9) and Loudoun Valley’s Ricky Fetterolf (18:30.5).

Loudoun Valley placed first as a team, followed by James Wood and Millbrook.

On the boys side, Liberty’s Sam Rodman earned a trip to the state meet with a sixth-place finish (16:28.7).

Loudoun Valley’s Kellen Hasle came in first (15:57.8), followed by teammates Kevin Carlson (16:19.7) and Taylor Ney (16:19.8).

The strong efforts from Hasle, Carlson and Ney buoyed the Vikings’ boys team to a first-place finish, followed by James Wood and Millbrook.
