Eastern View’s boys soccer team saw the most successful season in program history come to an end with a 4-0 loss to visiting Monacan in Thursday night’s Region 4B quarterfinals.

The No. 4 seed Cyclones fell behind early in the game and could not recover. The fifth-seeded Chiefs got a pair of goals from senior Ogagaoghene Akpeme, while classmate Alec Federice added a goal of his own and junior Walker Posey chipped in a goal and an assist.

Eastern View was only able to muster five shots on goal. At the other end of the field, freshman goalkeeper Bryan Healy collected eight saves for the Cyclones.

Eastern View will lose 10 seniors from its history-making squad, which finishes with a record of 12-5-1. Alex Baughman, Will Burton, Pedro Da Costa, Juan Carlos Duran Duran, Dylan Healy, Carl McAninch, Connor Smoot, Benjamin Spencer, Cheickna Toure and Steven Klinger all played their final high school game on Thursday for the Cyclones. Baughman, Healy and Smoot were first-team All-Battlefield District selections this spring, while McAninch and Toure made the second team and Spencer was named honorable mention.

The Cyclones will return goalkeeper Healy and fellow freshman Eseophe Pela next season, both of whom were standouts for the club. Pela earned second-team all-district honors.
