The Eastern View golf team wrapped up a historic regular season by topping host Caroline 193-218 at Mattaponi Springs Golf Course on Wednesday.
The Cyclones’ Robert Scott carded a 44, edging out the Cavaliers’ Kyle Pettigrew, who finished with a 45, for medalist honors.
Eastern View’s Nathan Amos took third place with a 49, while Peter Scott and Kelly Hackley tied each other for fourth after both shot a 50.
Gaige Robson (51) and Gavin Utley (53) added sixth- and seventh-place finishes, respectively, for the Cyclones.
Hannah Pettigrew and Diego Ramos each shot a 57 to finished tied for eighth for Caroline, while teammate Lukas Graham was 10th with a 59.
Eastern View finishes the regular season with a 14-5-1 record and a second-place finish in the Battlefield District.
“This is the second-most wins in a single season in school history,” Cyclones head coach Patrick Thornhill said. “The guys came out each day ready to work and got better as the season went on. I’m very proud of what they’ve accomplished.”
However, Eastern View’s 2019 campaign isn’t over yet. The Cyclones will face Caroline, Chancellor, Courtland, King George, Louisa County and Orange County on Tuesday morning at Meadows Farms Golf Course in Locust Grove. That match will serve as a qualifier for the Region 4B North tournament, with the top two teams and the next five individual finishers moving on to that event.
“We have a real opportunity to advance [to regionals] as a team,” Thornhill said, “but we will need to have a solid performance.”
Tee time for Tuesday’s match at Meadows Farms is 10 a.m.
