Irene lived with her family in Boone as a child, a place she never forgot and talked about her whole life. She would go back often to visit the Greer family that are still in the area, and was proud of the Greer heritage. She wrote a story about her childhood in Boone, and presented it to her niece, Alison (sister Lois' daughter). The Greer's moved to a farm in Culpeper, Virginia in the mid 1940's. Irene attended Culpeper High School where she graduated in 1955. She soon left for Washington, DC for work. They were married 53 years, had two children Laurel Stewart who lives in NYC, and son Daniel Kuhn who lives in the Atlanta area. Irene was the oldest of five siblings, Annie Singletary, Lois Smith, and James Greer preceding her in death, and she has one surviving sister, Dorothy Clatterbuck (John) who lives in Culpeper, VA. Irene has numerous nieces and nephews living around the globe. Irene went to the work in Washington, DC in the late 1950's for the federal government, and had lots of fun living with two of her sisters when they were young and working, and eventually would retire from Tullahoma Air Force Base after raising her two children. Irene loved to travel and has been around the globe to many countries. She had many hobbies including being an avid reader and in many book clubs, gardening, geneology, swimming, and she was very active with her friends. She will be missed by her family, especially her sister Dottie Clatterbuck who spoke to her most every day, and her friends in Tullahoma. She will be buried at Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper, VA near her beloved parents, and other members of the Greer family. Date to be determined.
