Susie Shirley Faulconer, 100, of Culpeper, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019. She was born on October 1, 1919 to the late Jesse James Viar and Virginia G. Casey Viar of Culpeper, VA. Shirley was a past president of Inlet Home Extension Club and Salem Garden Club. She volunteered many years at Brandy Station Auxiliary dinners. She also taught Sunday school to 9 and 10 year old girls for 22 years at her beloved Culpeper Baptist Church, was a member of the flower committee, and involved with many other activities. Her talents were many; gardening, cooking, flower beds, dress making, and 65 years as a home decorating consultant, creating whatever you wanted made. Slipcovers were her specialty as well as window treatments. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Viar Green of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Stephanie Jenkins (Alonza "Lee" Jenkins IV), of Charlotte, NC, Joseph James, III. (Sheila), of King George, VA, Kimberly Cook, of Phelps, KY; great grandchildren, Ellen Jenkins, Alonza "Quint" Jenkins V., Rachel and Nicole James, of Manassas, VA, Lauren James; great great granddaughter, Avianna Grace Cruz; and numerous nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin M. Faulconer; her children, Patricia Ellen and Darlene James; her sisters Ruth S. Bailey, Louise Potter, Vernette Hundley, Janet Lonas and Geraldine Clark; one brother, James E. Viar. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 S. West St., Culpeper, VA with Rev. Dan Carlton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow immediately for family.
