U.S. Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) will close Tuesday evening, Aug. 13, to allow replacement of a pipe, according to a news release by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The work will be concentrated between State Routes 748 (Bruces Lane) and 763 (Saint Jameson Road).

Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m., Rt. 522 will be reduced to one lane, controlled by flagging.

At 7 p.m., Rt. 522 will be closed completely to through traffic. Eastbound drivers from Sperryville will use Route 784 (Western Outer Loop) to Route 729 (Eggbornsville Road) to Route 229 (Rixeyville Road) to Colonel Jameson Blvd. to get around the closure. Those driving west from Culpeper will reverse the detour.

At 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, Rt. 522 will re-open to traffic. Depending on weather and construction progress, the road may be reduced to one lane controlled by flagging during the day. The pipe work is expected to be finished by late afternoon on Wednesday.
