The Congresswoman-elect for Virginia’s 7th District, including Culpeper, has named Roscoe Jones, Jr. as her chief of staff. Jones is currently legislative director for California Senator Diane Feinstein.
When Democrat Abigail Spanberger takes office in January, Jones will lead her office, according to a news release Monday announcing Spanberger’s first official hire.
Before working in Feinstein’s office, Jones worked as Senior Counsel to Senator Cory Booker and Senior Counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee under Senator Patrick Leahy’s leadership, according to the release. He is also is a former Justice Department attorney having served as Assistant US Attorney in the Western District of Washington, as well as Special Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights.
“I am pleased to have hired a Chief of Staff who is not only committed to public service, but also enthusiastic about the positive impact members of Congress can have on the communities they represent,” Spanberger said in a statement. “Creating and managing a strong and responsive team is essential to ensuring the people of the 7th District have the representation they deserve.”
Feinstein, in a statement, said she would miss Jones, calling him an important part of her senior team. She added, “I wish him the best of luck as Chief of Staff for Representative-elect Spanberger. I expect good things from him in the future.”
Jones is a Texas native who graduated from Stanford University and earned a law degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He and his wife, Serena, live in Washington, D.C.
