Officials with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a report for shots fired Wednesday afternoon. Their response ended an apparent standoff with a resident in quick time.

According to a MCSO Facebook Post around 2:30 p.m., deputies responded to the 100 block of Shifflett’s Corner Lane, located off of Route 231 north of Rochelle.

“Currently, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office is negotiating with the suspect who is in the residence,” the post stated. “At this time, there is no threat to the community however, because this is an on-going incident, Shifflett’s Corner Lane will be closed for an undetermined amount of time.”

By 3:21 p.m. on Tuesday, Sheriff Erik Weaver reported entry made into the residence and the subject had been detained. A rescue crew was on scene providing assistance, he stated, and the roadway reopened.
