A Jeffersonton woman and her 13-year-old passenger were seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Rt. 29 in Fauquier County, according to a news release from the Virginia State Police.
A 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling north on Rt. 29 at 2:45 p.m. Feb. 7 when it ran a red light at the intersection of Route 687 (Opal Road) and collided with a westbound 2015 GMC Acadia. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to crash into a road sign, which then struck a southbound 2015 Honda Civic.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Gurvinder Singh, 21, of Fresno, Ca., was not hurt in the crash. He was wearing a seat-belt.
The driver of the GMC, a 66-year-old Jeffersonton woman, suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital. She was wearing a seat-belt.
A passenger in the GMC, a 13-year-old boy, was also severely injured and was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital. The boy was not wearing a seat-belt.
The driver of the Honda, a 50-year-old Bealeton man, was not hurt in the crash. He was wearing a seat-belt.
Singh was charged with reckless driving.
The crash remains under investigation by VSP Trooper M.D. Brill.
Virginia State Police was assisted at the crash site by VSP’s Division 2 Accident Reconstruction Team, VSP’s Motor Carrier Team, Fauquier Sheriff’s Office, Fauquier County Emergency Services, and VDOT.
