A Ruckersville youth sports umpire has been indicted by a Greene County grand jury on 41 counts related to incidents involving four juveniles.

David E. Totten, 37, was arrested on Feb. 15 and has been held without bond at Central Virginia Regional Jail ever since.

Totten is facing 14 counts of felony sodomy; 10 felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a child; seven felony counts of distribution of a controlled substance to someone under 18 years old; five misdemeanor charges of causing or encouraging acts rendering children delinquent or abused; and five misdemeanor charges of sexual battery.

Totten is represented by defense attorney Brian Jones, who during a previous bond appeal in Greene County Circuit Court on March 20, said, “we certainly dispute the charges.”

Judge Dale Durrer set Totten’s arraignment for 9:30 a.m. July 30.

Totten has served as a youth sports umpire in the region and was also the coach of the U18 baseball team at the Greene County Youth Center that went to the state tournament last summer.
