Cedar Mountain Battlefield Living History Weekend

10 a.m. at the Culpeper County Site, on U.S. 15, of the Aug. 9, 1862, Civil War battle. Arms demonstrations and School of the Soldier at noon. The Battlefield is located at 9465 General Winder Rd. in Rapidan, Culpeper County. Parking is at the Carver Center, 9433 James Madison Highway/Route 15 just south of the battlefield with shuttles to the battlefield every 15 minutes. In the 4-County Museum at the Carver Center, a special exhibit, “Their Sacrifice: Our Freedom,” will be on display 10 a.m. to 4, featuring the stories of local African-Americans who fought for the Union.

Monroe & Madison discussion

3 p.m. at the James Madison Museum in the town of Orange. Jarod Kearney, curator of the James Madison Museum and Memorial Library, will give a presentation, “A Friendship That Helped Forge a Nation: Madison and Monroe.” $5/admission for the general public and free for museum members. 540/672-1776.
