Beginning Farmer: Whole farm planning workshop

Virginia State University Small Farm Outreach Agent Susan Cheek will teach an introductory course through the New, Beginning & U.S. Military Veteran Farmer and Rancher Program today from 9 a.m. to noon at The Carver Center, 9432 N. James Madison Highway in Culpeper County. The workshop is free and open to the public.

Whole Farm Planning puts beginning farmers in a good position to maintain or improve profitability while enhancing sustainability. Whole Farm Planning can also lead to protection and enhancement of the quality of soil, water, and other natural resources on and near the farm. More importantly, the planning process helps beginning farmers define long and short term goals. These goals can help improve the chances of a better quality of life at home and in your community.

For information, call the Small Farm Outreach Program Office at 804/524-3292 or Cheek at 804/ 720-5539 or scheek@vsu.edu.
