About

Biography

Dr. Mahjoub earned his medical degree from the University of Baghdad, where he worked with the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health on a research project in Jordan. Upon graduation, Dr. Mahjoub moved to the United States and completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine in Brooklyn, New York. During his training, he completed multiple clinical rotations at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

During his residency and fellowship, Dr. Mahjoub received multiple awards, including Intern of the Year for Professional Attitude and Behavior, Best Resident of the Year, Teaching Fellow of the Year and served as Chief Fellow during his last year of training. Dr. Mahjoub is fluent in English and Arabic.

Dr. Mahjoub treats patients with a wide variety of hematologic and oncologic disorders. His patients have access to clinical trials and subspecialty care from UVA Cancer Center. He has a special interest in lung cancer, breast cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, prostate cancer, head and neck cancer, lymphoma, and blood disorders. 

Dr. Mahjoub moved to Virginia with his wife, who is a pediatrician, and his two boys to be close to family. He enjoys sports, travel, reading and spending time with his kids.
