- SLIDESHOW CFA Championships
The sweet aroma of hot chocolate and funnel cakes swarmed through Saturday's breeze as the Culpeper Football Association geared up for its three championship games.
Saturday completed CFA's fourth season as an organization.
"The year went pretty smooth," vice president Mark Settle said. "Especially since we added the new Mighty Mite division."
The games were held at Floyd T. Binns Middle School. The athletes laced up their cleats under the lights in hopes of winning the shiny trophies that greeted them at the field's entrance.
"This is a full-time job - putting all this stuff together," president Kenny Jackson said. "We have an amazing team and we couldn't do any of this with out the support of the community and our sponsors."
The CFA relies heavily on support from the community. If you are interested in supporting the association, please contact a CFA coordinator at 727-1177.
Mighty Mite Division
The Mighty Mite Championship was played at 2 p.m. between the Hokies (8-2) and the Wolfpack (9-1). The Wolfpack was able to defeat the Hokies 19-6.
Diego Hunter was the star for the Wolfpack, scoring three touchdowns.
"This is the first year for the Mighty Mite division," Wolfpack coach Greg Hackley said. "We're the first team to ever win it."
Midget
The Cavaliers (8-2) defeated the Hurricanes (9-1), 16-14. Jeremy Robson threw a touchdown to Mac Elliot and Jacob Settle scored on a 5-yard run for the Cavaliers.
The turning point of the game was extra points. Robson sent to point-after kicks, worth two points in the Midget division, between the uprights to lift the Cavaliers to victory.
Bandit
The undefeated Hokies (10-0) easily defeated the Cavaliers (7-2) 41-25. Josh Majors led the Hokies offensively and defensively.
He broke long runs twice in the second quarter, scoring from 46 yards and 44 yards to give the Hokies a 26-19 halftime advantage.
