Jacob Settle pitched five innings, struck out eight and allowed one earned run as Culpeper American 9-10 rallied from a six-run deficit to beat Nelson Co. 11-7 Tuesday.
Down 6-0 after an inning, Culpeper scored one in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth inning before exploding for seven runs in the fifth.
Offensively, Culpeper was led by Ray Tricarico (3 for 3), Matt Hall (3 for 4) and Brian Ramey (2 for 4), who with the bases loaded had a three-RBI double in the fifth.
Culpeper got solid defense from several key players after several costly errors in the first inning lead to the large deficit. Hunter Dowell had an outstanding catch in right field and Josh Pittman turned a diving line drive catch into a rally-stopping double play in the fourth inning when Nelson had runners on second and third with one out.
