The Highland Hawks cleaned up Monday when the postseason softball awards were announced for the Delaney Athletic Conference.
Seven Highland players earned all-conference honors, including Culpeper product Maire Shaughnessy, who was named the league’s Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year.
Highland coach and Culpeper native Donald O’Meara was also named the DAC’s Coach of the Year after guiding the Hawks to the regular season conference championship.
Joining Shaughnessy on the first team was catcher Ella Miller, outfielder Erin Whitney and utility player Mollie Dooley. Danae Davis was named a second-team outfielder and Weslie Bowers was picked as an honorable mention outfielder.
The Hawks are making their third consecutive trip to the VIS state tournament this season and play at Nansemond Suffolk Academy in the opening round today. Highland won the state title last year with Shaughnessy in the pitchers circle and the Hawks were the state runners up the year before.
Wednesday, Highland will squeeze in a makeup of the DAC Tournament championship game at Quantico before the state semifinals Friday at Dunbarton.
