Devilettes honor top athletes

The CCHS girls track team honored several athletes at a postseason banquet Tuesday.
The Devilettes, who finished sixth at the Cedar Run District track and field meet, honored six athletes.
Freshman sprinter Meyhonia Layne was honored as the team’s rookie of the year. She finished 12th at the Northwest Region meet in the 100-meter dash.
Fellow sprinter, senior Dominique Danquah, captured the most improved runner award. Danquah was also a regional qualifier, finishing 15th in the 100.
LaPorshea Morton, who finished 12th in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump at the Cedar Run meet, was honored as the most improved field athlete.
Kelsey Hottle and Karina Platt were given the coaches awards.
Dira Hansen capped her brilliant CCHS track and field career with a 23rd place finish in the high jump at the state championships. She also qualified to the state meet in the triple jump, long jump, and high jump in 2007. She was named team MVP.
