Orange suffered its second blowout loss in as many weeks Friday night when the Hornets traveled to James Monroe and lost to the Yellow Jackets 41-15.
Quintin Hunter threw five interceptions and JM’s Jamal Smith rushed 18 times for 183 yards and two touchdowns to help the Jackets remain undefeated at 5-0.
James Monroe built a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but Orange appeared to have gotten things together in the second. After the defense forced a safety, Hunter reached the end zone on a 28-yard run to make it a 14-9 game. But the Yellow Jackets responded with a 45-yard touchdown run by DeVontae Atkins and the rout was on.
Hunter was able to drive the Hornets one more time in the fourth quarter when he completed a 20-yard pass to Amir Waller for a touchdown, but JM tacked on two more touchdowns to run away with the win. Monroe rushed for a total of 291 yards, but it was the turnovers that made the difference.
Orange fell to 2-3 this season, but has an opportunity to rebound at home next week against winless William Monroe.
