The Cyclones made history on Friday when they participated in the first football game in EVHS history. The team traveled to King George for a jamboree style scrimmage against the King George Foxes and Lancaster.
“One thing we’ve really been stressing is playing as a team,” EVHS head coach Greg Hatfield said. “We saw a lot of that tonight. Our guys worked together and picked each other up when they made mistakes.”
The Cyclones played well enough to win both of their unnoficial matches, defeating King George 12-0 and Lancaster 18-0.
Senior Stevie Strother led the attack with 130 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries, while senior D.J. Minor added 57 yards on seven carries. Senior quarterback Cody Whitlock finished 7-12 for 147 yards and one touchdown.
“I was really happy with the intensity I saw from our guys,” Hatfield said. “There were some mistakes that we’ll address Monday, but I was really happy with the steps we took.”
