Eastern View rebounded from its first home loss to pound visiting King George 6-0 Friday afternoon. Taylor Queen recorded a hat trick for the Cyclones, who lost to Courtland on Wednesday, but had little trouble taking care of the Foxes this time around.
“I think they took out some of the frustration that they didn’t finish on Wednesday,” EVHS coach Peggy Allen said. “They played well in the first half and when you are up it’s hard to keep your intensity up throughout the entire game, but we had moments where we did alright.”
Queen picked up her first goal early in the game, taking an assist from Bridget Lorentzen and scoring to make it 1-0 with 23:37 remaining in the first half. The Cyclones added goals from Samantha O’Connell and Megan Geisler before Queen scored again with 16:26 left in the opening period.
Eastern View went into halftime with a 4-0 lead, but quickly improved on that in the second half when Queen’s third goal made it 5-0 with 24:59 remaining.
“We ride Taylor all the time because every time she comes off the field I always tell her the bad things she did,” Allen said. “But yet she’ll come through and have her stick down and be where she needs to be. That’s why we push her all the time.”
The Cyclones added one more goal when defender Morgan Martin scored off a penalty corner with 7:23 remaining.
“We decided to put Morgan on the corners because she’s fearless,” Allen said. “She gets lower than any player on this team. So we figured that she would be awesome up against the goalie and she’s done a nice job for us this year.”
Eastern View faces another stiff Battlefield District test Monday when James Monroe comes to town. The Cyclones (8-3-1, 4-2-1) could use a win against the tough Yellow Jacket squad to crawl back into the mix for the regular-season district title.
“In my opinion we have a chance to beat anybody if they come out wanting it,” Allen said. “That’s what we got to do.”
