It wasn’t exactly the Senior Night they were hoping for, but the Eastern View Cyclones came away from Monday’s 2-0 loss to Chancellor feeling confident as the regular season winds down.

The Chargers used a pair of first half goals to slip by the Cyclones, who are tied for third place in the Battlefield District with James Monroe. If Eastern View takes care of business at Spotsylvania in the regular season finale Wednesday, the Cyclones should earn the No. 3 seed in the district tournament.

“They are a very good team,” Allen said of the Chargers. “I thought we did some positive things.”

Chancellor took an early lead when Kelsea Hull took an assist from Amanda Scheel and scored with 19:16 remaining in the first half. The Cyclones defense then held tough until Melanie Glassford scored for the Chargers with less than two minutes to go before the intermission.

From there both teams battled back and forth for possession of the ball, but neither could take advantage of offensive opportunities in the second half. Eastern View had an opportunity to get on the board with four consecutive penalty corners starting at the 12:30 mark, but missed on shots in each case.

It marked EVHS’s second loss to the Chargers, but Allen said it was a better effort out of her team this time around.

“I thought we moved the ball better on them this time,” Allen said. “We just kept coming up on the short end of the stick. By that I mean people were not going into their positions like they should have. That was killing us, but when we played them up there they ran us silly. I thought we did much better this time.”

The Cyclones finished the game with eight corner attempts compared to 10 for the Chargers and Chancellor also outshot EVHS 11-10. Eastern View’s senior goalkeeper Nicole Woodworth recorded nine saves in her final home game.

“It’s nice when the coach from the other team comes up and says your goalie played a nice game,” Allen said. “That’s a nice compliment to Nicole and I thought she did play a nice game.”
