The Highland School girls basketball team got its season started with victory Tuesday night in Warrenton with a 49-42 triumph against Brentsville.
The Hawks, who have been-to-back to back VIS state championship games under coach Donald O’Meara, are looking to defend their Delaney Athletic Conference title and got off to a good start despite missing point guard Ella Miller to injury.
Toni Cataldi, picked up two early fouls and scored just two points in the first half before scoring 20 in the second to lead Highland. She also had 10 rebounds. Shendi Joseph added 10 points for the Hawks.
Weslie Bowers scored eight and Maire Shaughnessy added seven points with both players logging 30 minutes.
Highland continues its season Tuesday night at home against Word of Life before heading to Lynchburg next Friday to take on Holy Cross in the first round of the Virginia Episcopal School Invitational.
