Staunton Post 13 stayed alive in the Virginia American Legion Baseball state tournament Thursday morning in Stuarts Draft, beating Orange Post 156 12-7 to eliminate Orange and end the Post 156 season.
Orange, the District 12 champions, dropped into the losers’ bracket Wednesday after an 11-run outburst in the seventh and eighth innings propelled South Richmond to a 15-3 victory over Orange.
The Orange squad was made up of players from a variety of players from area high schools, including Culpeper County, Orange County and Madison County. CCHS players Jeremy Brown, who finished the year with the sixth best batting average in the state at .479, Hunter Kenney, Robbie Whitmer, Trevor Funk and Cody Whitlock helped make up the Post 156 roster.
