Cyclones battle to 3-3 tie with James Monroe
Facing one of the top programs in the Battlefield District, the Eastern View Cyclones traveled to James Monroe on Wednesday and battled the Yellow Jackets to a 3-3 tie after two overtimes.
Despite a barrage of shots from JMHS in the first half, neither team had scored until EVHS’s Courtney Owens sent a pass to Taylor Queen, who scored with 2:19 remaining in the first to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead. James Monroe answered a minute later when Katherine Cory scored the first of her two goals to make it 1-1 at the half.
Ana Gonzalez scored to give Eastern View a 2-1 lead in the second half, but Cory’s second goal once again tied the game with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation. The Cyclones took the lead again late in the second, this time it was Queen assisting on an Owens goal. But James Monroe answered again to tie it 3-3 with a minute to go.
Liz Crane, Kelsey Larson, Gracie Gilmore and Morgan Martin all stepped up for the EVHS defense with Crane, Larson and Martin all recording saves. Goalkeeper Nicole Woodworth added 25 saves for the Cyclones, who are now 4-0-1 and 2-0-1 in the district.
