» Summary: Be sure to get out to Yowell Meadow Park today for fun in the sun and a chance to honor our
country; thank you to our boys who gave all to keep us free.
Looking for something to do on the Fourth of July? No plans for grillin’ and chillin’? Then be sure to mosey on down to Yowell Meadow Park for Culpeper’s Fourth of July celebration.
The event has always been a “must see” for Culpeper residents, if just for the fireworks that cap off the night. But this year there’s a whole slew of activities to keep you and your family occupied.
If you’re athletic, kick off the day with a nice run during the Freedom 5K. Prefer watching your sports instead of participating? From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., youth soccer and Little League games will fill the park.
Don’t like sports with balls? Again, no worries. Check out CRI’s car and bike show at the Depot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Want to relive history? Check out the patriotic program at the courthouse at noon.
At 4 p.m. the annual parade kicks off, and at 4:30 the Culpeper Olympics combines some non-traditional sports, including a greased-pig chase.
Of course, the fireworks finish the evening. But it’s sure to be a full day of fun in the sun. Make it a point to get out there and enjoy it!

TWO OF CULPEPER’S HEROES: On a somber note, please take a moment today to remember those Culpeper men and women who have helped keep us free to enjoy our independence.
Think especially of 2nd. Lt. Leonard M. Cowherd III and PFC Edwin Anthony Andino II, who gave their lives in Iraq to ensure that their friends and family in Culpeper could enjoy their basic freedom of toasting their country on her birthday.
Gentlemen: On this day of celebration, we salute you and your fellow soldiers.
