» SUMMARY: Numerous efforts are underway to improve landscaping and refurbish buildings around Culpeper.
What makes an area special?
Most people say a clean, healthy environment where people take pride in the place they live. Even though there are some areas that still need addressing, Culpeper is blessed with residents who care and who are working to make this town a more attractive place.
Anyone who has driven down West Street has seen the transformation of a house on the corner of Edmondson and West. What was once an old wooden structure in need of substantial work has been getting a phenomenal facelift.
A dank and dark old house now has new yellow siding, as well as a bright green roof. Windows were replaced and the intricate trim work has been installed to match what would have been standard at the time it was built. The landscaping is taking shape and it now looks like a showplace.
Sometimes it’s natural to tear down and start fresh, but to see someone take the time to restore a solid structure that had been a part of the landscape for a long time is refreshing, to say the least.
There are many other subtle projects that might not be as dramatic, but spruce up the area just the same.
The mural project across from the depot on the site of the weekly farmers’ market is adding a splash of color.
Culpeper Renaissance has been instrumental in having planters placed along town streets, making the area attractive and green. Yowell Meadow Park is beautiful and even the newly crafted red brick crosswalks have added a nice touch to area roads.
This list could go on and on, but little things like these make Culpeper special and those responsible for helping put this town’s best foot forward should be commended.

Yowell Meadow Park looked so fantastic on July 4th that I actually stopped and thanked the Culpeper DPW guys for working so hard.
They did a great job and should be recognized for it.
Lots of small improvements are combining to make the downtown look great!
