» SUMMARY: A pair of fundraisers helps raise money for good causes in our community.
A group of Culpeper women deserve credit for “Fighting with Finesse.”
No, these women aren’t members of a female boxing league, they’re fighting against something much scarier than Tonya Harding wearing a pair of boxing gloves — breast cancer.
The 11 Culpeper ladies will walk in the Susan G. Komen three-day breast cancer walk Oct. 3-5 in Washington, D.C.
We commend the group for joining thousands of other women throughout the country to help raise money to find a cure for a disease that is expected to affect more than 180,000 women this year.
The women have planned a Bowl-a-thon this weekend at Mountain Run Bowling Center in Culpeper, and we recommend attending. For a $35 donation at the door for an hour of bowling you could potentially help save a life.
The team is also raffling off three prize packages that range in value from $300 to $700.
We wish Team Finesse members good luck with their participation. We know that if members of the team can beat breast cancer they can easily handle a 60-mile walk.

SKATE ON: We also commend the members of Skate Culpeper On Our Park for their dedication toward keeping the Yowell Meadow Park skatepark open for skaters.
This group raised more than $500 earlier this week at a fundraiser at Dee Dee’s Family Restaurant.
The funds will be used for skater education, repairs, signs and other needs at the park.
The group also said it is mobilizing its own “skate board” to help the Town handle complaints about alleged abuse of the park.
We are glad to see that SCOOP is stepping up to help keep the park a viable part of the community, a part that is needed to help keep teenagers happy in Culpeper.
