We must reduce oil dependency

People still don’t get it.
Finding and drilling for domestic oil may not reduce oil prices as much as we would like, or as soon as we would like, but it will reduce our dependency on foreign oil, especially from countries like Saudi Arabia — who use oil profits to support international radical Islam — and other OPEC members who would like to see the United States undermined.

Every time there is a hiccup in the Middle East, the speculators drive the price of oil up. If America made a commitment to harvest it’s resources, to conserve and to use wind, solar and nuclear the speculators would drive the price down. Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less.

Cave- I don’t think nuclear is considered “alternative” although some people probably consider that it is. It is certainly alternative to what we have been doing lately.
Drilling for more oil will lower prices. Depending on how much they find in ANWR or the coasts it will lower the price at the pump a few pennies.....in 2020 according the the Energy Dept. Oil discovered at those places will be priced at the world market price. It will not be a special cheap price for US users...unless we nationalized the oil fields.

I keep hearing everyone using the words alternative energy. Are you talking about wind, solar, terrestrial (nuclear) or something else?
Drilling for oil will increase supply. Why would the increase in supply not reduce the price? This isn’t what they taught me in economics.

I think everyone “gets” it. But drilling for more oil will do little to reduce world price. Not giving any money to Saudi Arabia, etc. is a good idea, although they’ll just sell it to someone else. What we need are alternatives that everyone can use so that the price of oil goes down and the Saudi’s have less money that ends up in the hands of radicals.

Some people also don’t get that if we had listened to Carter we would be, or nearly be energy independent now. Of course no one would bite the bullet and look where that has gotten us. What people don’t get, Mr. Furr included is that we must develop alternate energy sources and quit letting Big Oil dictate our energy policies.
