I read the column that Mr. Kalenga wrote on Sunday ("African-American boys in crisis" ), and blaming the system for the way young black boys act is ridiculous. And even more absurd is blaming it on medication. It sounds like Mr. Kalenga is making yet another excuse so that black youth have a reason for the action they take.
The real root of the problem starts at home (which I never saw Mr. Kalenga mention) with the parents and how the children are being raised.
Hip hop is teaching a lot of these black boys the wrong words, the way most of the songs talk about guns, gangs, drugs and violence. Why don't black churches try religious hip hop- Maybe that would help.
This day and age, young blacks have the same educational advantage and fairness as any race has. It's up to the individual to what road he chooses, not the system.
Mr. Kalenga needs to quit playing the blame game and start facing the real issues.
