A big thanks to the USPS carriers of the Culpeper Post Office! They had a very successful food drive on May 10, collecting 3,000 pounds of food for the Culpeper Food Closet.

We understand the extra burden placed on the carriers, as they must deliver the mail as well as pick up the food, and picking up the food means getting out of their vehicle to pick up the bags of food. We also thank the community for their generous donations at a time when everyone is feeling a pinch with increasing gas and food prices. Imagine the additional load placed on those who are already in need.
This was a particularly good time for a food drive, as, with children getting out of school soon and being home for lunches, our need for food increases in the summer.

Last year we provided food for a record 105,000 meals, and we are running somewhat ahead of last year’s pace. At this time, there are no major food drives scheduled that we are aware of until the Boy Scout food drive in November. Therefore, the weekly donations from churches and individuals become even more important to us.

Thanks again to all who participated in this “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.
