I was born and raised in Connecticut, which always started school the day after Labor Day.
The same was true when I relocated to Virginia after a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy circa 1957 and much was the same in the counties where my children were born and raised.
I currently am a Culpeper County school bus driver doing double runs the past several years.
I've got to tell you, those big yellow monsters called buses - sitting out in the August sun all day - can achieve some pretty high interior temperatures. And there is no air conditioning.
I'm sure I can speak for many, if not all, of my compatriots who would prefer the start date for Culpeper Schools be moved to the day after Labor Day.
It makes a lot of sense.
