Smokers don’t deserve to receive scorn

In reply to Robert Legge's article on smokers ("Tobacco's grip hard to break," Feb. 28), I wonder why everyone doesn't pick on people who drink whiskey, beer, etc. That's really bad. At least people that smoke know what they are doing. They can drive without having a bad accident.
I am a smoker. I'm very poor. I can't afford things that people who have money can enjoy. So don't pick on me. We are all going to die of something. People who never smoke die of lung cancer, etc.
Why don't the tobacco farmers stop growing tobacco- They are not getting rich anyway.
