In response to the Our View staff editorial in Tuesday's paper ("Compton plea bargain reeks of favoritism,") you could not be more accurate.
But there is another issue. I think race still places a big part in how cases are dealt with in this community. It is no coincedence that a black man who faced similar charges received a much more harsh sentence.
One would like to think that in today's society that racism is dead and buried. But being a black woman and having lived in this community for more than 14 years, I have wittnessed it on several occasions, especially in the judicial system. Young black males in particular seem to receive more time, and harsher consequences then young white males in the same situations.
Someone needs to take a long, hard look at what is happening and start holding those in charge responsible for their actions.
