Whether you voted for him or not, I urge the people of this nation to pray for President-elect Barack Obama.

In addition to the economy, our new president will be facing many critical issues.

One of these issues is abortion and Obama’s stated desire to reduce the number occuring in our nation. However, he has also promised Planned Parenthood — the largest abortion provider —he would sign the “Freedom of Choice Act” into law.

This act would actually increase the number of abortions because it would eliminate the laws that restrict abortion in any form, including what is termed partial-birth abortion.

Around 3,700 babies are aborted daily in this country; that’s a 9-11 terrorist attack every day.

As sad as that is, it’s more disturbing to know minorities are a prime target of the abortion business. For example, narly a third of those aborted babies come from within the black community.

My hope is that Obama will have a heart change, realize how devastating abortion is in every community and not sign the “Freedom of Choice Act” into law.

So, let’s pray he will receive wisdom and discernment in making this and many other decisions that will affect our nation.

Not that this view will be popular…but:  Yes, the president-elect will be facing many “critical” issues. We have a severe economic meltdown, we have an illegal war in Iraq…really now an “occupation”, we have a climate change crisis, we have loss of jobs, we have higher prices, we have many “critical” issues.  To present a person’s right to choose what happens, a deeply personal decision, with her body and future as right up there with issues needing immediate attention, well, I’m sorry. I personally would probably not choose to have an abortion. That is my personal choice. But it’s not my business if someone does. It’s called Freedom of Choice, and it’s no one’s business but the person involved.

The bottom line is that SOME people think it is morally wrong. If that is what you mean then don’t try to make the statistics fit.  It would also help if the Freedom of Choice law said what the author claims.

It really doesn’t matter what the statistics are on abortion. The bottom line is that abortion is morally wrong. Whether you believe the Bible or not we will ALL give an account to God one day for allowing abortions and especially if we supported someone who promoted or signed laws allowing it. I didn’t support Obama and would not support anyone who finds it to be “okay”. However, I will be praying that Obama’s heart will change on the issue and he will not sign the Freedom of Choice Law.

Where do the other two thirds come from? Well lookie what I found at the CDC.

The highest percentages of reported abortions were for women aged <25 years (52%), women who were white (57%), and unmarried women (81%). Fifty-eight percent of all abortions for which gestational age was reported were performed at <8 weeks of gestation, and 88% were performed before 13 weeks. From 1992 (when detailed data regarding early abortions were first collected) through 2000, steady increases have occurred in the percentage of abortions performed at <6 weeks of gestation. Few abortions were performed after 15 weeks of gestation; 4.3% were obtained at 16—20 weeks and 1.4% were obtained at >21 weeks. A total of 31 reporting areas submitted data stating that they performed medical (nonsurgical) procedures, making up 1.0% of all reported procedures from the 42 areas with adequate reporting on type of procedure.

In 1998 and 1999 (the most recent years for which data are available), 14 women died as a result of complications from known legal induced abortion. Ten of these deaths occurred in 1998 and four occurred in 1999; no deaths were associated with known illegal abortion.

Interpretation: From 1990 through 1997, the number of legal induced abortions gradually declined. In 1998 and 1999, the number of abortions continued to decrease when comparing the same 48 reporting areas. In 2000, even with one additional reporting state, the number of abortions declined slightly. In 1998 and 1999, as in previous years, deaths related to legal induced abortions occurred rarely (<1 death per 100,000 abortions).

From what I read the Freedom of Choice Act has never made it out of committee.  It is not likely to next year either.
