Regarding the letter Sept. 26 from Martha Dudley titled “Media should check Obama’s birth certificate,” the media already has done so.
Sen. Obama certainly was not born in Kenya, although his father was. The senator was born Aug. 4, 1961 at the Kapolei Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
May I suggest that she look at the photo essay in Newsweek magazine, Sept. 1 on page 38?
She might also be interested in reading the Time magazine special issue: “The Democrats,” Sept. 1. Pages 46 and 47 state, “With roots in Karma, Kenya and beyond, the candidate is a genealogist’s fantasy.” The senator’s mother, by the way, was born in Kabul.
The American media, for all its faults, is not so incompetent as Ms. Dudley suggests.

Oh my god…why is it about race at all? Why is it because I won’t vote for him that I am a racist? I think that’s very unfair of you to characterize me like that and not see that I have pointed out specific items to which I have concern over.
I am concerned about the comments of being a “typical white person” because I know that not all people feel that way…I’m sorry, not all african-american people feel that way. I don’t think the hate that Obama has subscribed to for all these years is typical at all. I may be completely ignorant on that point, but I don’t feel any of my friends harbor angst towards me because I’m French-Arab-Scotch-Irish.
Civil rights mean just that…rights for everyone…there should be no color “pointing” and every attack against Obama, like it or not, is not racially minded. What an ignorant and self revealing thing you just said.

Well, my “fears” are being realized currently because people reduce Ayers to merely a college professor. Have you watched any of the news video from those times? I’m personally only 34 so I don’t recall any of it. But I have watched news footage, even a Connie Chung interview where she interviewed him & his wife and she said “Wouldn’t you say now “we were wild and idealistic and we regret our actions”. They responded with “We were wild and idealistic and we should have done more.“
I don’t see how someone who once condoned and encouraged distruction and terror on neighbors, police departments etc could be reduced simply to a college professor….my fears are based in the revelations of people who are Obama minded who are willing to be dismissive about such actions, no matter how long ago…which leads me to believe you’d be equally be dismissive of my rights, freedoms and basic safety in this country.

Well, well…..Hmmmm. So a vote for a Black man means a loss of freedom (way of life). So am I to take it that if I vote the other way, I will retain my freedom (way of life). As I see here, there is no just reason. This is America the Land of the Free, but somehow it doesn’t seem that way. Heather, let me help you out here. You are voting for McCain because he is White. This is what you really want to say.

thanks for the attempt to explain. I wasn’t asking you to convince me. I was asking you to back up what you said. That could be directly to anyone.
First of all socialism does not mean dictatorship. Most of the European counties have a form of socialism and none are dictatorships. There is absolutely no proposal anywhere calling for businesses only to be placed in certain places…other than local zoning ordinances. There has never been any laws even seriously considered that would mandate providing health ins. or require holidays in small businesses.
Taxes. Obama has endorsed some increase in taxes on those that earn over $250K in net profit. Don’t forget that requires Congress’ OK. Is that going to make the difference in whether your business is economically viable? If not that is a pretty thin margin you’re working on.
Exactly how does an old college professor (bill ayers) threaten your American rights?
I’m sorry to hear you being so fearful. I really don’t think that your fears will be realized in an Obama administration.

I don’t know how to explain it to someone who’s mind is already made up pro Obama.
The taxes in “fairness” that Obama will impose will have an effect on business’s in my community, therefore affecting the ability to earn a living from such business or taking advantage of certain price differences as they will have to offset the additional taxes with increased prices on products or services.
Creating my own business is questionable still as the socialist mentality that is gripping the country right now may indeed have a future impact on any new business. Would the government dictate what businesses could go where? Mandate I offer health insurance? Mandate I observe certain holidays, not as an option, but as a requirement? The freedom of choice goes away in a dictatorship, and that’s what a socialistic society is.
The freedoms being taken from my children will be the same ones Cuba doesn’t have. Chavez, Castro, Ayers, Wright, Farrakhan, Phleger, all these people threaten my current American rights. They promote hate. The promote an Orange Democratic Society. All have a connection to Obama. All have been associated with him or specifically, he has commented on meeting with the current dictators. Why does the world love him? It’s a chance for the ideal America to be finally brought to it’s knees, in a move of fairness based on worldy opinion of us.
These people Obama is associated with, promote segregation & punishment against me because of my skin color and wages. They make it “fair for all” while “fair” in Cuba is everyone is poor, except the dictator. What would be the desire to do anything if everything was equal no matter what you did?

Balderdash Heather. You write:
I want the right, however, to embrace my freedoms and have a chance to earn an income, create and grow a small business and leave a positive legacy of what we did positive during this hardship. I want my children to have the same freedoms and choices I have been given. A vote for Obama would guarantee a change of that.
Tell us exactly how Barack Obama will prevent you from “embracing your freedoms”, prevent you from “having a chance to earn an income”, prevent you from “starting a small business”, and prevent you from “leaving a legacy”. What choices and freedoms will your children no longer have? This is rhetorical trash-talking that apparently appeals to guys like MST, but won’t win your candidate the office he’s seeking.

Heather, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Not only does McCain thank you but Teddy and Ronald would be proud of your insight and patriotism. Remember this - it’s folks like you that make this country great. And it’s people like you that will keep this country the home of the brave and the land of the free. We’re all going thru tough times but socialism/communism has failed and is failing everywhere it’s been tried and is currently in vogue. Keep your head up and be proud of who you are. Better times are coming and you’ll be one of the reasons.

I am forced to vote for John McCain. None of the independent candidates have a chance, although I believe none of them voted for this bailout.
I have to vote for John McCain in an effort to vote against Obama.
I voted Dem until ‘04 and truly believed we didn’t need to withdraw from Iraq so I voted Bush this last time, it’s the only thing I agreed with him on.
I will cast my vote again for the republicans this year. Markets go up & down. There should have been no bailout. I want the right, however, to embrace my freedoms and have a chance to earn an income, create and grow a small business and leave a positive legacy of what we did positive during this hardship. I want my children to have the same freedoms and choices I have been given. A vote for Obama would guarantee a change of that.
I am voting against Obama and for McCain.

Heather your comment states that your are not voting for McCain and you are against voting for Obama. My question is, who are are you voting for? I realize that times are rough and this ecomony is no easy fix. I am neither Republican or Democrat. I consider myself an independent because I look and vote for canidates that I believe can fix the issues. Last year I earned 95k and this year I will earn about 115k, give or take a few dollars. By the way my mortgage is 2400 dollars a month and I am married and have two kids. Life isn’t easy, we manage day by day. Also, the last two election, I voted Republican Party. This didn’t go over so well seeing that my family members are die-hard Democrats. Again, I vote according to who I believe would get the job done.

Obama and Biden were instrumental in adding protection to the Homeowners of the Bailout Bill.
The kind of goverment we have had is RADICAL and only helped the already very rich.
The bailout is socialism.
