The recent appearance by the "national illegal immigration activist" Joyce Mucci is a welcome sight in today's world ("Enforce the law and illegals will go home," Feb. 27.")
Around the world in Kenya, Sudan and Serbia, we see the wrong way citizens express their discontent for issues. At least illegal immigration activists in Culpeper and America are using the First Amendment and not Molotov cocktails.
However, I would be remiss if I did not point out fallacies in the recent comments from Ms. Mucci.
First, by saying local officials have continued to show "apathy," she is jabbing at local law enforcement and politicians - which I take offense to.
Maybe there is apathy in Kansas City, but not here in Culpeper. Maybe she confused "apathy" with our local law enforcers' measured moves as judged by Virginia laws, not those of Arizona and Missouri.
Second, by going after employers you will only destroy the economy.
Businesses are at a point in time where an increase in costs could be fatal. Why not make the immigration process quicker or more accessible-
Also, if you thought inflation was high now wait until we lose a large portion of cost-effective labor.
I encourage activism when done appropriately as Ms. Mucci has done. However, she should not call local law enforcers apathetic and also she should better research her economic implications.
Oh, and Ms. Mucci and her supporters should leave the children out of it, or as she calls them, the "anchor babies."
