More of the same idiotic actions by local government

I read with interest George Morris’ July 10 letter to the editor, “Old School Board handcuffed new one.”

It seems that things like this are always happening in Culpeper. It’s time we all grew up and acted like adults. There’s always a confrontation between town and county on all sorts of matters. They fiddled around so long that it took twice as long and much more money to build the new high school, whereas if they had just sat down like reasonable adults it could have been done a long time ago.

I think it’s idiotic that we citizens will now have to pay David Cox all that money while he’s not obligated to do anything for us. What an example to set for our children and grandchildren.

I also agree with G. Robert Jones letter of the same day, “School Board is poorly managing public resources.” His last paragraph says it all: “But the real victims here, as always, are those individuals and families who must pay with their taxes for their elected officials’ mistakes, and their children who will suffer the most from an unforgivable mismanagement of public resources.”

Exactly - a new high school was needed 20 years ago.  By the time they got around to approving one, imagine the price increases!

Ms. Houdesheldt, what on earth does the town have to do with building the new high school. It’s totally a county project built on county-owned land. The town had absolutely nothing to do with the design of the school or its location. The town offered to run water and sewer at no cost to county taxpayers to the site. So please tell me what any differences the town and county have caused a delay in construction of the new high school or evene elementary school. Now if you want to say differences between the school board and board of supervisors might have delayed the project, i would wholeheartedly agree. Please do your homework before you write about something.

Dr. Cox will be consulting for CCPS for the next year.  Not fair to say “he’s not obligated to do anything for us.”
