Media continues its love affair with Sen. Obama

The world can be a very confusing place for many folks. So it’s comforting to know we have a really smart guy around like Sen. Barack Obama. He told us all about his plans for Iraq. And then he went to Iraq on a fact-finding trip.

That’s pretty cool.

But he’s really brilliant because he takes three savvy campaign advisers on the trip with him. Everybody knows Katie Couric, Brian Williams and Charlie Gibson know how to spin the news. They’ve had plenty of experience over at ABC, CBS and NBC.

But it doesn’t end there. The ever evenhanded New York Times published the senator’s opinion editorial. And because no one could match such an intelligent op-ed, they declined to publish one by Sen. McCain. (He’s the other guy running for president.) I guess they figured, why waste the space?

And I can’t forget that other media outlet working overtime for Sen. Obama. It’s Newsweek, the neutral news magazine. Since July 16, 2007, Newsweek has had Obama’s picture on the cover six times. That’s not so bad considering it’s a weekly magazine. They are trying to be fair and balanced.

And now a rumor has it that the Democrats (Nancy or Harry) will announce a new fuel savings program soon. It’s very imaginative. It goes like this: Since there is near unanimous agreement in the media that Obama should be our next president, the November election should be canceled and Obama declared the winner by acclamation.

Think of all the energy we would save. Why not?

After all, the media knows what’s best for all us dumb Americans.

People have you ever heard of the George Mason (up the road) Center for Media and Public Affairs study? Do not listen to campaign junk. I quote from a web site I found “The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University in Virginia, which has studied network news since the 1980s, analyzed content on ABC, CBS and NBC news shows and found that when reporters and anchors expressed opinions they were significantly more negative toward Obama and more positive toward McCain, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.”

KTrick 8:15 AM, oh p-lease!! Try again. The NY Times has lost NO “credibility.” It, along with the rest of the print media and many other industries, has suffered recently due to the effects of high oil prices, a slowing economy and the housing crisis. You know, the RECESSION. The Times took the hit in the area of advertising revenues. Second-quarter profits (not the profits of the “past fiscal year” as you said) fell 82 per cent to $21m, or 15 cents per share compared with the same period a year ago, when it benefited from a $94m gain from the sale of television stations. Income from continuing operations was down 5.5 per cent for the quarter. Revenue fell 6 per cent to $742m. “The New York Times Company’s results were the latest sign of gloom from the newspaper industry, which is now feeling the effects of a slowing economy as it grapples with an ongoing migration of readers and advertisers to the internet.” (Google: “Ad sales drop 16.4% at New York Times.) Try giving us facts not your unsupported “slant.” Semper fi mom 9:09 AM, you charge that Obama is “THE most liberal senator (when he bother’s to actually vote rather than slough off with “present”.) Can you explain that? There is no such vote as “present” in the US Senate. He voted “present” only 3% of the time during his service in the Illinois State legislature. Do you have a clue as to why he did? I doubt it.

sunset- Obama is the de facto nominee, not merely a candidate as Jackson. It was 1984 and Walter Mondale was the nominee.  If he says something bad, you can guarantee that someone in the media like Fox will make sure it gets plenty of play.  Then again Fox listeners wont’ vote for Obama anyway, right?

1.  At every stop on his tour Obama said he was a Senator applying for the job of President.
2. Sen. Obama checked with the Pentagon about visiting the wounded soldiers at Ramstein, Gemany and was told not to go. He went to see wounded soldiers in Kuwait and was told it would not be appropriate to visit Landstuhl. Which became a new slime attack machine from Mc Cain.
4.The News Media finds that their audience prefers to hear about Sen. Obama. If you wish to know more about him why not listen and read.  Keep an open mind.

rjma, didn’t Jesse Jackson run for President a few elections back? And the “risks” will only come into play when he is no longer the media darling. I find Obama to have little real substance and is more media “hype” than anything else.

Senator Mc Cain must have said Surge about 2000 times this week ...boring..  he doesent get news coverage because he puts people to sleep.  Is the Surge the only thing he finally voted on where he was correct and did not change his mind.
I checked his voting record and he was not a Republican 2 years ago but a year ago he saw the light and changed his mind to vote with the party line.  Now what is that called???

And we want a man who portrays himself around the middle East and Europe as if he was the President. Someone in Germany actually called him the Messiah (more like the anti-christ). And this man had the audacity (to use his wording) to refuse to meet with wounded soldiers in Germany saying it wouldn’t be prudent!  Those are the ones he should be talking to, not the Germans, French, English, Jordanians or any others!

Here-here:) Glad I actually read it, rather than skipping over it based on the 1st sentence.  The whole situation sort of parallels the sad fact that a large percent of our population is superficial - he’s charismatic - and that’s what makes him popular.  No one, regardless of political party affiliation, should have carte blanche like he has - if you question him - you’re racist; if you question what he and his wife have stated - you’re evil/low class; The media has such a burning desire (that “tingle up a leg") for him - they’ve really been much more blatantly biased than usual.  All built on personality and no substance.  He’s THE most liberal senator (when he bother’s to actually vote rather than slough off with “present") - Kennedy is next.  Hopefully, those that are not being vocal and drinking anyone’s Kool Aid will see this and it will reflect in the election.

Great letter smile

I’ll definitely agree with you on the Newsweek cover photos.  But I think it is fair to say that Obama will get more coverage because of the “phenomenon” factor of him being the first non-white presidential nominee.  Look at the crowds he has garnered.  But all this media coverage comes with some risk.  He is more likely to be caught on tape saying something outrageous that will sink him.

The NY Times has lost all credibility and the public has finally taken notice: they suffered an 82% profit decrease in the past fiscal year.
(From $118.4 million down to only $21.1 million.)
People want REAL NEWS - not liberal slant.
