John McCain is part of the POW network and is held in high esteem by the other members. I have not met Sen. McCain but the respect accorded him by other military men is impressive and more than enough testimony to the character of the candidate.
He did not become a hero by getting shot down and imprisoned. He earned the respect of his fellow prisoners by keeping faith with them and the code of conduct. He refused early release, instead making a principled choice to do the right thing despite the knowledge that it would result in more beatings with no guarantee he would survive. Several other prisoners made the choice to accept early release violating the code and the trust of their fellows.
John McCain has the right stuff to lead in these perilous times. I endorse him without reservation and urge voters to join me in helping him win this vital election.

While McCain’s reputation as a POW is legend, what is less known is his involvement in what amounts to a suppression of classified files on POW’s and MIA’s. There may have been up to 1,200 American men left in Laos or Viet Nam after the war. McCain worked to keep the files sealed and he worked to eliminate the criminal penalties for the suppression of those files.
He is not well regarded among Veterans.
