Legge needs to mind his own business about TC

Let me put it bluntly — Robert Legge should mind his own business. Why a resident of rural Madison County thinks he has license to opine on the Town Council race in Culpeper (“Town Council running well,” April 24) advocating on behalf of some candidates while criticizing others, is beyond me. With his usual smugness, Mr. Legge lectures us on why we are fortunate to have our current council and the disaster in store for the town if some of the challengers win. How would he know? Has he actually met or exchanged views with any of the challengers he criticizes?

Mr. Legge should fire whomever it is he uses to give him the inside scoop into Culpeper politics. He stated that none of those candidates he labels as the “HPC4” attended last week’s budget meetings — well, I personally saw three of them at one of those meetings. He also wrote that these challengers show up at Town Council meetings and leave after delivering their anti-immigrant rants. I’ve attended a couple of recent council meetings and while I did not see Mr. Legge there, I did see some of the challengers he criticizes sit through the entire proceedings, and I listened as they spoke on issues other than immigration.

My advice for Mr. Legge is to sit back, enjoy the view of the mountains from his yard, and worry about Madison County — we’ll take care of Culpeper.

Mr. Legge does have a stake in this community…his job. Just because some one doesn’t agree with your opinion doesn’t mean it has any less value. If you want grow as a person(which includes being open to new ideas) listening to/reading various ideas are necessary. Try opening your heart & mind. It’s a shame that the HPC & buds are so full of hate & scared of new ideas- take so much more energy.

Mr. Price, using your logic about Mr. Legge, who is a regular CSE columnist from Madison, then I suggest the Steadmans, who live in the county, Donna Kemp, who lives in Orange, and anyone living outside the town adhere to your idea and stay out of the town’s business, all of it.

Tell you what Mr. Price, you tell Donna Kemp to stay out of town council business since she lives in Orange, and maybe Mr. Legge will stop giving his opinion, although that’s what his column is—opinion. Did HPC4 (Baker is a closet member) get you to write this for them?

I respect what Robert Legg has to say.  I can tell you first hand that I attended a public safety meeting and I observed both Jerry Beckett and Orange County resident Donna Kemp get up and walk out after the illegal immigration issue was discussed.  What makes Kemp think she has pull in this community?  Just because she shops here?  Others who are reliable have seen the HPC’ers leave after immigration topics are finished.  Are you at every meeting Keith?  Obviously not.  All have only one agenda and that’s illegal immigration.  Let me guess?  HPC has more than one issue?  Yeah right.  Look at their candidates, their website and what they say.  You keep writing Robert.  Afterall, we here in America enjoy the freedom of speech to include the ignorant people.

There was a letter just the other day from a lady from Orange County that criticized the current members of the TC. Do you think she should also mind her own business too.  Or is it only writers who don’t support the same candidates you do that should mind their own business?

On the blog for his letter, Mr. Legge apologized for his factual errors before any other comments were posted.

Strange that you haven’t been as upset when an Orange County resident has written many letters criticizing council members she doesn’t know, or that it doesn’t seem to bother you that Hate, Prejudice and Chauvinism has more than a few out-of-town members.

Mr. Legge is welcome to point out the problems with the HPC4. Looks to me like they’ll take care of the town-like an exterminator takes care of roaches.

This is a great place to be. Don’t destory it.

Is this not a free country? Isn’t this a community newspaper, which features opinions from a variety of individuals? We’ve had former Culpeper residents chime in on such subjects as immigration, the heated sheriff’s race, and other local matters. Did those people have a dog in those fights? Perhaps someone with an (slightly outsider) perspective can shed light on these candidates that others could not.

Which issues?  Which meetings?  All we have hereis some blah, blah, blah and no real details.
