Jenkins deserves applause, respect

I am appalled at the lack of respect and support Steve Jenkins receives from his fellow Town Council members, including the mayor.

Jenkins’ efforts to address some of the difficulties facing Culpeper, most notably the illegal immigrant situation and recently the zoning ordinance problems, should be commended, not ridiculed.

I, for one, wish there were more concerned citizens working to clean up Culpeper, rather than the stonewalling of one who simply wants to make this a better community.

Kudos Mr. Jenkins. Please don’t become discouraged and give up.

I expressed an opinion, offered no “facts” other than I’ve known Steve for a long time, and was attacked for saying such. Even attacked in reference to another topic all together! So my case is well rested in the FACT that lawman and now you Brian have attacked my acknowledgement of Steve and my opinion that I felt he would not give up. That MIGHT be “one sided”, my opinion isn’t “wrong” or “incorrect” and on what point am I “lacking facts”? Because I truly HAVE known Steve for a long time...other than that, I presented no facts! Pray tell how either of my posts here show any “prejudice”? But the FACT is, I was attacked for my view point and that “case” you two are continuing to strengthen.

What case would that be senseit53?  The only case you have ever seemed to make is that your views are one sided, wrong, incorrect, lacking facts and rather prejudice.  Now if that is the case you are resting on then I say yes you definately made it.

You have no case senseit53.  Accept the truth about Jenkins.  Yes it’s hard to accept but it’s the facts.

Jenkins deserves respect?  Oh please.  How can someone who shows no respect for anyone or the law even know what respect is.  The guy wants the law followed but yet he can’t comprehend it or even abide by it.  Am I supposed to put aside and ignore what Steve really stands for and who he is?  It’s a shame we don’t have mandated background checks on all who run for office.  He wouldn’t even make it on the ballo if we did.

senseit53 you have known Jenkins for a long time?  I bet you don’t even know who he really is.  He will never be a law enforcement officer again.  Did he not share the truths with you while sitting at the shopping center protest next to you?  The man has a blemished past that he only brought on himself.  Don’t worry about him giving up.  We the voters put him in his place keeping his pals at HPC out of office.  We will do the same when he is up for re-election.  This community needs to be represented by someone who is law abiding himself and puts his personal feelings aside.  He does neither.

Steve Jenkins cares less about the community other than to divide it and make the front page of every paper that will give it to him.

Here is a great way to clean up Culpeper Susan.  Let’s give Steve Jenkins the boot come the 2010 election.  If that election is anything like this election we just had we will be throwing him a goodbye party.

Ms. Heflin, may I suggest that the Mayor, Town Council and many citizens here know much more about Councilman Jenkins than apparently do you? Respect is earned. He has not earned anyone’s respect. Most people in our community disagree that the illegal immigrant situation and zoning are major “problems” facing Culpeper and say that there are much greater “problems” to address with our extremely limited resources. I think Culpeper is a fine community with very few if anything’s needing to be “cleaned up.” You’ve stated that Jenkins “simply wants to make this a better community.” I say you’re sorely mistaken. But be this as it may or may not be, this is also the prime objective of the Mayor and the Town Council who seem to be doing a very fine job. Most Culpeper residents apparently agree with me based on the results of our recent election.  I will be very surprised if Mr. Jenkins runs for reelection and survives the 2010 election. He appears to me to be a very “lame duck.”

I’ve known Steve for quite some time and seriously doubt that he will “give up” just because people are making it difficult to do what he was elected to do. People with principles seldom do. Continue to speak out Ms. Heflin and don’t YOU get “discouraged and give up.” when the petty attacks come.

I don’t think anyone could deny Mr. J’s pride in his town and desire to keep it an ideal small-town. Many question his tactics, however. It seems that Jenkins, and others in this community, are holding on for dear life while the rest of the world is moving at a faster pace and changing in ways we did not expect. There needs to be a balance of keeping Culpeper an appealing town, while dealing with the changes.
