Emma Richards Town Councilwoman, Culpeper
Published: May 2, 2008

I have served as a town councilwoman for two four-year terms. I planned to seek re-election had it not been for health problems.

During my time on council, I have worked closely with Mike Olinger for eight years, Chip Coleman for five years and Chris Snider for four years.

My colleagues have worked tirelessly for the citizens throughout their terms. No one realizes the sacrifices we make when we seek public office. There are countless committee meetings, regular meetings and special meetings, which require our attendance and answering questions for constituents.

We serve because we care and love our community. We want to make a difference in the quality of life for our citizens. We realize decisions we make won’t satisfy everyone. But we try to make decisions that will make life better for those affected by them.

Even though the council may not agree on every issue our hearts are in the right place.

Through the years, Chip Coleman, Mike Olinger and Chris Snider have offered those different points of view and have worked hard to make the town a better place to live.  I have truly enjoyed working with them and have confidence in their abilities and commitment to lead our town.

The town faces many complex issues — not just one. The consolidation proposal is extremely complicated, as is managing a multi-million dollar annual budget. These three men understand the issues.

I encourage you to join me in casting your vote for Chip Coleman, Mike Olinger and Chris Snider on May 6. The future of our town depends on them.

Emma.  Thanks for your service.  You will truly be missed.  You have been and are a tremendous asset to this community and I greatly appreciate it.  Thanks again.
