In your paper last week, Police Chief Scott Barlow wrote a letter asking the public to trust the justice system, sheriff and Police Department ("Don't lose faith in law enforcement," March 20).

Well I have news for him! If you all in all three departments want the people's trust, you have to earn that trust.

We trust the Sheriffs Office to protect our children when they take part in learning all about the jobs they do and how the law works. A state investigation into sexual misconduct with an underage girl is not part of that trust.

The deputy who had sex with this girl should have gone to jail for the crime, not just pay a fine and walk free. If he got away with this crime, who's to say that others will not try the same thing knowing they can get away with it-

Why didn't Mr. Hart do something about it when it happen and Mr. Branch too- Why did everyone call Mr. Jenkins a liar when he was the only one who stood up for justice when the crime was done-

I have lived in Culpeper for more than 40 years, and I have never seen so many crooks in my life as I see in the court system, Sheriff's Office and the town police.

Parents: Be careful who you trust with your children because, if you don't, something like this or something a lot worse might happen. Then, the crime will be swept under the rug again by our law-abiding officers and their bosses.
