Anita Hartke’s diatribe (“Cantor should be fired,” Oct. 11) reveals, perhaps inadvertently, one of the many reasons that we voters are so dissatisfied with Congress.
Here we have someone who is trying to persuade us that she is fit to become part of the management of the most powerful nation in history by using innuendo and half truths about her oppo-nent while proposing a transparently artificial debate in a childish effort to give her an advantage.
I would have preferred her to use the same space to describe how she would go about improving our economy, dealing with a record deficit, a dangerous world and the education of our children.
Instead, she has left me with the impression that she is simply more of what we already have too much of in Congress: squabbling, power- hungry people who do not understand that they were elected to run this country responsibly.
In contrast, Eric Cantor shows continuously that, regardless of Republican ideology, he puts the country’s interests first. His recent vote against the iniquitous farm bill and his refusal to invest his time in earmarks are but two of the examples which recommend him to me as a responsible legislator who takes a long-range, balanced view of what our country needs.
If Ms. Hartke wishes us to take her seriously, she would be well advised to consider behaving in a similar adult manner.

How did we get on Obama? The author was talking about Cantor and Hartke. Why would people from other states be investing so heavily in a Virginia politician? I’m sure they have the best interests of Virginia at heart.

rjma, Who received donations from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae? (Obama and Biden) Who donated 800K plus to Acorn, an allegedly non-partison, tax-funded group with proven illegal, partisan behavior supporting his campaign? (Obama) Who receives untold support by Hollywood? (Obama) - so - why does it matter geographically where money is raised, if it is done ethically and legally? (I feel that all that is legal is not necessarily ethical.)

Whose interests are served by Cantor’s raising of $3.5 million in places like Beverly Hills and Hollywood?
