An open letter to Culpeper County Public Schools Superintendent David Cox:
With reference to Scott Found's dismissal, when I first heard about the accident, like many other parents my first thought was, "What kind of role model is this coach-"
Then, when you consider that he works for a mortuary, I think you have to cut this guy some slack.
If any one of us did that for a living, what would we do in our off hours-
Can you imagine dealing with death issues on a daily basis, up front and in your face-
He can't push the thoughts aside like the rest of us do and say I'll deal with that later.
In his workplace, he's surrounded by depressed people whose loved ones have just died, which adds up to a whole lot of negative energy that he has to rebalance. How would we do it-
I think his choice to work with youth was a great one.
Vibrant, very much alive, teens could help you refocus and keep you functioning.
To take this away from him is like taking a patient off life support.
Everyone makes mistakes, but we can learn from them. So can a community and even a school district. Get Found to sign an agreement for Alcoholics Annonymous attendance. Have a non-drinking assistant coach assigned to the team.
If Found was a lackluster coach who the kids couldn't stand, maybe dismissal would be warranted, but the kids absolutely love him.
A good coach is hard to find, and this is a very special case. Give Scott Found another chance.
By the way, I am a non- sports fan and the parent of a CCHS student.
