In response to the letter "Disagreeing with a person may not be 'hate speech'" (March 1), Mr. Price was one of only about 40 people attending the Help Protect Culpeper meeting.
What was a self-proclaimed "perceptive and fair-minded man" doing there to hear a presentation by a representative of the designated hate group FAIR-
In fact, contrary to his erroneous charge, I certainly do not disdain anyone whose views on anything differ from mine. I welcome and respect fair and honest debate essential in a democracy and all people who engage in it.
But I do disdain bigots and their hate groups that target, demonize and scapegoat a sector of society they dislike and propagate misinformation, myths and lies about them in an effort to incite others to share their views.
In fact, for very sound reasons FAIR has been designated a "hate group" by both leading non-government orgs (the ADL and the SPLC) dedicated to identifying them and to monitoring and combating their harmful activities.
On April 19, 2000, 16 Republican senators wrote a letter to their colleagues charging that FAIR was "engaging in a smear campaign against immigrants in general (and that) FAIR's venom may be able to go uncensored, but it should never go uncensured or uncondemned."
I agree 100 percent, and whether Mr. Price recognizes it or admits it, FAIR is a designated "hate group" invited into Culpeper by Jerry Beckett's HPC.
