An open letter to the residents of Culpeper: On May 6, you, the town voter, will elect to our Town Council four representatives.
As a present member of the Town Council, former member of the Board of Supervisors and a native of the community, I view this election as one of extreme importance for our community.
We are very much at a crossroads as a community. The push for urbanization of this once “Top 10 Small Towns of America,” must not be allowed to continue. The quality of life enjoyed in this rural community has been greatly damaged. However, with local leaders that are willing to listen to the average homeowner, the long standing resident, and those who moved here to escape urbanism, preservation of our town can occur.
As residents of the town, you have the right to require certain expectations of your elected leaders.
The pursuit, enforcement and adoption of laws and ordinances that will provide the ultimate of safety is always a top expectation.
There is an expectation that tax dollars will be spent conservatively, without threat of tax increases.
It is expected that local leaders will work cooperatively with each other for the benefit of our community.
Lastly, certainly, you have the right to expect transparency of local government on topics affecting the community, and the right to expect to be treated with respect and an attentive manner when you question the process.
I encourage all registered voters to go to the polls on May 6.
Vote for the candidate(s) that you know will fulfill your expectations.
With individuals on council that will strive to protect Culpeper, and our small town USA lifestyle, once again this community will prosper.

Where is all that support you claimed to have Steve? 85% did you say? Dream on buddy. We took care of HPC candidates this election. 2010 will be your turn. I wonder what you folks will do now? Tell Donna Kemp that the deck is stacked against you folks. Seems Orange County residents and out of towners don’t have the pull they thought they had. We the voters sure do and we used it.

Give it up Steve! Hopefully, you’ll be the next to go. It’s a shame you lost your position in law enforsement,(what did happen there?) you’re obviously into the power trip. And why do hate hispanics so much? You go on & on about “illegal is illegal” but I’m sure there are things you do that are illegal…cross the street out of a cross-walk, change lanes without a turn signal, etc. I think you pray on the fears of the people that see change & can’t handle it. And in your position, instead of reassuring & helping people acclimate you use their insecurity against them, pretend to be their protector. The only thing you’re protecting is your ego. You under estimate the majority of this town, they see you for what you are.

Strive to protect Culpeper is the key words here. This is nothing but a plug in for your buddies at HPC. You must all be getting desperate. You dad even had to write a letter. I can’t wait until Wednesday morning after the election when you and the HPC are sitting around asking each other questions like what happened? Where is all that support we thought we had? Do you really think that people are just plain stupid to not see through the facade you display? I encourage all voters to vote against HPC because they have only one issue and are not concerned with the real town issues. You grew up here and it seems from your words that you just can’t accept that the community changed. You can’t have it your way. The influx of people from Northern Virginia have invaded your town. Just say it. Your letter just shows that you are reaching desperately for the support that neither you or the HPC candidates or organization have. Many of your few supporters don’t even live in town or the county. How shameful that you represent the people or should I say mis-represent them.

Come on Steve. Who wrote this for you? We know the real you. Yes as residents we have a right to vote and make sure that we are represented in our best interest, something you surely haven’t done. Do you own property in town? Do you even live in town? Adoption of laws and ordinances locally that you want will put the town directly in the direction of serious costly lawsuits. Your media circus has been ongoing for two years now. I see you didn’t mention also that you were a former law enforcement officer. I’d like you to let everyone know all the answers on why. Afterall, you are an elected offical who is supposed to uphold the law right?

The council is cooperative and does work together, except one rogue member who wants everything his way. That member is you Mr. Jenkins. You bully etc. Growth may be an issue but zoning decisons made decades ago cannot be undone and you know it. So to make that an issue now is a sham. Why didn’t you just be “transparent” and say vote for your HPC buddies because that is what you really want. That is why it is more important than ever to re-elect Coleman, Snider and Olinger. You didn’t even go to bat for your colleagues. That says a lot about your charatcter and cooperative spirit.

Was that supposed to be an endorsement for your HPC buds?

You are correct with what you say—and that’s precisely why we must not elect any of the HP4 group to the Council—we can’t afford anyone else who thinks like you.
