Election means more of the same for Culpeper

After seeing who won the four seats for Town Council in Tuesday’s election, I was appalled. This election just proved to me how “big money” people in this little town can influence an election.

This election means that things will remain the same around here for another four years.

You can bet that these next four years, myself and a few friends will go around this town and get the working man to register so that we’ll have our say in the next election.

I just wish that other people would get fed-up like I am and make a stand, too.  This town will never improve or grow in a positive view when people keep voting the same old school people into office.

What we have here in this Town is pretty darn good. Four more years of it is fine by me. Over and over again, the Hate, Prejudice and Chauvinism group threatened that the council would pay for not listening to them. Well, they listened to the rest of us, and that’s also fine by me.

Four more years. Good enough.

Mr. Kelly (a very busy letter writer of late): These off-season type local elections are famous for low turnouts. And you forget one thing ... Apathy is the most insidous crime. You cannot assume many people just like or support the status quo due to low tuen out. Tim and time again I’ve heard citizens young and old say they “just didn’t bother with voting.“ That is sad, but it seems more and more true all the time. I believe a small percentage of the population cared a lot about the election and the outcome - and it was covered in the Culpeper and Fredericksburg newspapers. The rest were not influenced by “big money” or a political machine. They just didn’t give a hoot.

Allen, there is another election in 2 years, not four.  And why spend time registering more voters, when 5 out of 6 registered voters didn’t even vote.  Work on them first. Big money influenced the election?  Yea, it was all those TV ads on American Idol paid for by MoveOn.org.

Mr. Kelly how can big money influence an election?  Either the citizens vote for someone or they don’t.  It is obvious that the citizens of Culpeper like what we have and did not want changs.  If some one wanted a change than it was their duty to get out and vote and make a change.

Sour grapes Allen? The voters spoke and decidded they liked the path town council was taking and weren’t influenced by Steve Jenkins and his band of one-issue candidate disguised as HPC. If you are so concerned Allen, run in 2010 and campaign on the illegal immigration issue. You won’t get my vote just like HPC didn’t get it this time. I am very satisfied with Coleman, Olinger, Ryan and Snider. Get over it.

Well Mr Kelley, not exactly the same thing.  Steve Jenkins lost even more credibility after this election (assuming there was the tiniest amount left) and now maybe we can get to the real issues.  You know, the ones that affect everyone near equally and won’t cause our town or county millions in law suits.

As I’ve mentioned several times, I’m proud of and have a renewed faith in Culpeper.

Face it Allen.  You are just unhappy that Steve Jenkins and his HPC cronies were not successful.  I was not influenced by anyone other than voting for the best candidates who will do the best for my town.  This town will improve even more when we get Steve Jenkins out of office.  This election means that we can be thankful that HPC had no candidates with their one issue called illegal immigration voted into office.  The election is over and the best candidates won whether you like it or not.

In this election, “working men” like myself chose sensible, tried leadership over asinine zealots (HPC 4) and well-intentioned rookies (the other 3). I’ve lived here three years now, and I like my town and feel like it’s run pretty well. Change for the sake of change? Not if I’m paying for it.
