Kudos to all involved in this year’s Fourth of July celebration in Culpeper!
We didn’t get to see the early events, but we arrived in time to see sack races, egg tosses and football games, take a horse-and-carriage ride and to partake in the good ol’ event foods of the day.
There were plenty of food vendors to fill our tummies, including the standards such as sausages, hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as ice cream, Italian ice and, of course my favorite — funnel cakes.
I was amazed at the amount of free activities for the children. I particularly enjoyed watching the gladiator game.
There was free water and free popcorn too. The vendors had all kinds of goodies for sale, to help celebrate in style.
One of my favorite places to stop was the booth where you could write a note to a soldier. I thought that was a wonderful idea.
And to cap off a great evening, the fireworks went on, even in the rain. The display started early, probably because the rain was getting heavier. It was better to have it early than not at all. We normally watch the fireworks from our front porch, so it was a real treat to come down into town to see them up close. The display was impressive and lasted a good long time, ending with a great finale.
Traffic after the event was well controlled and organized. People were courteous and patient. And then we were home in no time at all.
Thanks to all who helped make this a great day of celebration in Culpeper.
