Congressman Eric Cantor’s push for offshore oil drilling is a dangerous distraction from the real energy crisis. What Rep. Cantor’s doesn’t mention is that study after study has shown that not a single drop of oil will be available for at least seven years. Even if some pockets of oil were found, they will likely not knock a single cent off the price of gas.
But more importantly, by promoting only strategies that further enrich the oil companies, Cantor perpetuates America’s dependence on fossil fuels. In his eight years in Congress, Cantor has voted consistently against any investment in renewable and alternative forms of energy. He is opposed to holding the oil companies accountable for their outrageous profits. Check his record.

mst 11:04 AM, what’s outrageous and sad is people like you who write foolish letters without having done any homework. Republicans attempted more than 10 years ago to reduce our dependence on “foreign oil”? But Democrats are concerned about reducing our consumption of OIL. Something about the/our environment? Yes, that is right. It is about the environment; the air we breathe, the water we drink, the life forms including ours that we’re affecting. We’re concerned about life not profits. And I won’t address your sick nonsense about our driving, jobs, work, “pilates”, tea, etc. Such as that is far beneath reason and me. You support Cantor and Bush? Now that I think is truly SAD.

Janis, it’s always sad to see liberals try to support their leaders blunders. Republicans attempted more than 10 years ago to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and the liberals voted it down every time. Something about polar bears, caribou, spotted owls, etc. Liberals like you and your candidates are to blame for not allowing companies to discover and produce our own oil, provide jobs here, and keep our money here. Sure, we need to use less oil but the fact is, until an alternative is found, that’s not going to happen. I know liberals don’t need to drive because they don’t have real jobs. They’re writers, thinkers, complainers, etc. They sit around all day yearning for their utopia where a normal day is pilates, tea, and a trip to the theater in their electric car. And of course blame the people who do the real work. What’s outrageous is people who write letters without having done their homework. If Cantor is as bad as you say, he’s got my vote!!
